Why All The Marketing & Sales Programs Haven't Worked For You

Mar 26, 2021

You spent lots of money on marketing programs - but they didn't bring you clients.

It's not their fault - because you're the one procrastinating on what they told you to do.

The real problem? You signed up for a program that would teach you how to do something you don't enjoy & feel good about.

Would you ever go to a speed dating event and just agree to date the first person you meet and "make it work"?

Would you be cool with just adopting their values (whatever they may be)?

No, you'd go there with your particular set of values, and look for someone who matches them.

When selecting a marketing strategy - you're essentially selecting a partner.

This partner, your marketing, will become front and center of your daily activities as a coach.

What set of values are you using to select your marketing “partner”?

What criteria do you require in order for it to be a good match for you?

We all know marketing is critical to your success as a coach. The lifeblood of your business.

But, thinking you need to seek out "the best" marketing strategies isn't the best place to start from.

I did this for 6 years straight.

Anytime I saw someone who was more successful than me, I'd immediately drop what I was doing and start modeling them instead.

All that modeling/copying of other people just caused me to start (and ultimately abandon) dozens of different marketing projects.

Modeling successful people is still great advice - but only if you want to have exactly what they have.

Meaning your day-to-day activities will be the same as theirs.

Do you want the same thing they have?

My favorite way to market my business is to write. I write every day. I love it. It fits my personality.

I like to just go up to the cozy little coffee shop (where I am now) and type away. That's my idea of a great day.

I recently made an investment to work with a coach who specializes in using just writing, specifically, to market & sell coaching programs.

This coach does not send a single cold DM to anyone (one of the marketing activities I hate the most) and is showing me how to avoid doing that, too.

That decision was a no-brainer, because it was in clear alignment with my values.

Oh, and it's paying more dividends than any other marketing program ever has.

If I had gotten real about this years earlier - and started using marketing I loved instead of what “they” said I should…

I’d actually be a lot further along.

I would have avoided all those "false starts" where I fired up a new type of marketing, only to shut it down soon after.

I wasn't being honest with myself about what I would really enjoy. I just thought I had to figure out what "everyone else was doing" and model my efforts after that.

So when you think about all the different ways you could market your coaching business, which ones would give you the most energy?

Here’s a list of potential ideas (but don’t let any list limit you):

- Writing books
- Filming videos
- Writing posts
- Live videos
- Paid advertising/Webinars/Funnels
- Conversations/DM’s
- Phone Calls
- Podcasting
- Facebook Groups

Oh, and if you don’t know what you want yet, here’s a helpful hint:

Stop looking at other people. Go inward, and get really honest with yourself. Feel into the decision. Your body knows what to do. That's where the answer lies.

Then, you can look on the outside at all the different programs, and join one that aligns with your ideal marketing channel.

The decision will be easy.

When you get this right, you will get out of marketing overwhelm and kill off shiny object syndrome.

You will no longer envy all those other coaches who are drowning in the sea of “copying & modeling” each other.

You will get laser focused on just one or two marketing channels that really align with your greatest gifts and the activities that excite you the most.

You will be excited about the work you get to do each day to market and grow your business.

This is the final missing piece that even the most aligned coaches don’t have.

You might love your client, niche, and really believe in our offer.

But without aligned marketing, you’ll always feel like you’re pushing a boulder up a mountain.

What I shared above is one of the main things I address in my 6 week workshop that helps coaches & experts who are already making money but want to realign their business to serving a new client and/or solving a new problem. I also address creating an aligned offer and pricing/delivery model as well.

If you’re interested, shoot me a DM and we’ll chat over Messenger to see if it’s a fit or not. I’ll be able to tell within a short messenger conversation whether this would be a good fit for you or not. If it is, we can get you started in the workshop ASAP.
